Sistrum - Band Bio
Like the ancient instrument from which the band derived its name, Sistrum takes its inspiration from the universal elements and from all corners of musical influence. Hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, the band combines an earthy element from country, a moody and soulful component from the blues, and the edgy elements of rock and metal to form a modern and uncompromising sound that is all their own. Playing only original music, in an original style is the Sistrum mainstay. Besides surviving over the past nine years with a no-covers policy, the group has been thriving in a place hungry for good songs, great vocals and tight-knit talent.

At the heart of Sistrum is Wendy Rae Mason’s writing. Her autobiography is played out in prose, while allowing the performance to add the punctuation. The heartfelt delivery is never lost on a Sistrum audience. It’s rare when an original band creates and nurtures such an allegiant following. Sistrum fans follow and support the group knowing the words and the band by heart.

Impressed by what they had seen and heard of the Sistrum sound and Wendy’s sultry delivery, all the current band members started as fans. The lead guitarist Aaron Chanda, once played for a Sistrum opening act. Joseph Citarello knew the band from reputation and their fan following when he came from L.A. to answer the call for a bass player. Vince Lane, taking on drum duties, found a home with the band after many years of playing live in and around the Phoenix area.

Sistrum's catalog of music is easy to feel. Straight-ahead and soulful, the delivery is decidedly uncluttered. After nine years the band is not predictable, just solid. Wise beyond their years and worldly beyond their desert borders, it's easy to imagine Sistrum playing an arena or roadhouse. Whatever the surroundings, they are a good fit.

Like a leather jacket, Sistrum is hip and smart, yet rugged with a deep, rich aroma -inviting and familiar. Something you slip on new, but it feels like you've had it forever…something you would love to wear over and over.
